Residential Users - Erith

Client Case Study

Background

IT Results have been assisting these residential users, a family of four based in Erith, Kent, for several years. We provide them with Pay As You Go IT support, and Cyber Security Services , on an ad-hoc basis, as and when required.

Some of the ways that we have assisted our client are summarised below:

Pay As You Go IT Support

The family use a number of different devices, on a day-to-day basis, including:

We provide both onsite and remote IT support, for all the above devices, depending on what the issue is. Some examples include:

 System Configuration

We configure all devices, install software, perform BIOS upgrades, and troubleshoot any system issues.

 Email Configuration

The family have a number of email addresses, including private domain names, which we configure across their various devices.

Anti Virus

We have implemented various anti-virus solutions, including AVG Free, Symantec Endpoint Protection and Malwarebytes.

Networking

We have set-up several Wi-Fi networks and ethernet hubs around the property, to give the best possible speed for each device.

Microsoft 365

We have set up Microsoft 365 on all devices, so each of the family members can work on Office documents and participate in Teams meetings.

How we resolved issues with our client's internet services

Up until 2019, the family had been struggling with an ADSL 2+ connection, resulting from a lack of internet services in the area.

Due to the slow performance of the connection, the family were limited as to what they could all do simultaneously.

For example, if one of the kids was playing on their Xbox, no one else could really do very much. Websites would take an age to load etc

hyperoptic broadband speed test

Then in June 2019, we were made aware that Hyperoptic were rolling out their fibre broadband solution in the area, so we suggested that our client consider moving to this, replacing their ADSL 2+ connection.

In September, they had the 1GB service installed. We connected all their computers, game consoles, iPads and phones to the Hyperoptic connection, using a mixture of Wi-Fi and Ethernet. When performing a speed test, the difference was night and day, compared with their ADSL solution.

Whereas they were getting around 10Mbps download speed and 0.5Mbps upload with the old solution, they were now getting over 900Mbps in both directions!

To maximise stability, we installed an additional 4 port Gigabit hub in the lounge, running an ethernet cable back to the Hyperoptic router. We connected the Sony TV, Sky Q Box, and Xbox to the hub, ensuring the fastest connection for each device when streaming / playing games on the Internet, and minimising the chance of any network lag.

The Hyperoptic fibre broadband service really does deliver, especially if you have a household that demands lots of bandwidth. Having seen it in action, we would definitely recommend it.
